Katchi Dabeli - make your favorite street food at home!

This is one of the favorite street food which we miss a lot here in Bangalore.
So this weekend get ready for making this famous Katchi Dalbeli at home..
Where does this derive its name from is a mystery for me..but what ever it be..its surely yumm!!

Ingredients:
4 Medium sized potato, boiled and mashed well
4 tbsp dabeli masala (readily available)
2 tbsp tamrind-jaggery chutney (meethi chutney)
salt to taste(if not added already in dabeli masala)
2 tbsp malasal peanuts (how to make see below)
2 tbsp pomegranate
1 tbsp frehsly chopped coriander
1 tbsp finely chopped onion (optional)
lehsun chutney (optional)
4 tbsp oil
2 tbsp butter
Ladi pav (4-6 pieces)
Naylon sev
1/2 tbsp red chilli powder

Well in this recipe I am using Dabeli masala that I brought from Mumbai in my last visit..but you easily get in dry form also.

Update July, 2022: Used Suhana dabeli masala that is dry powder. Taste wise I adjusted the masala taste a bit by adding some salt & around 1/2 tbsp sugar.

Preparation:

For Masala Peanuts
1. Heat 1 tbsp oil and add peanuts to it
2. Keep stirring till peanuts start turning golden brown
3. Remove from heat and add salt and red chili powder and mix well
Lightly crush the peanuts so as to remove the outer cover and split them into two parts

For stuffing:
1. Heat 3 tbsp oil and add boiled and mashed potato
2. Add dabeli masala and salt if needed and mix well
3. Cook for 1-2 min and keep aside

Transfer the potato mix in a plate and spread it evenly
Spread pomegranate, masala peanuts, chopped onion(optional) on the mix and garnish with coriander and onion(if using)

Assembling Dabeli
1. Split the pav from middle, such that it is not seperated into two parts
2. Apply sweet/meethi chutney on one side and lehsun chutney on other side from inside
3. Stuff the 2 tbsp prepared dabeli masal in the pav
4. Repeat with other pav as well
5. Heat tava and spread butter, cook the prepared dabeli on butter on both side
6. Spread nylon sev in a plate and dab the prepared dabeli on three sides in sev

Your yummy dabeli is ready...Serve hot with tomato ketchup
