Flaxseed Chutney Recipe | Maharashtrian Jawas Chutney (Healthy Flax Seeds Chutney)

Flaxseed Chutney, also known as Jawas Chutney, is a traditional Maharashtrian dry chutney made with roasted flax seeds, garlic and aromatic spices. This nutty and spicy chutney is a delicious accompaniment to bhakri, chapati or steamed rice.

Flax seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fibre and antioxidants, making this chutney both tasty and nutritious. This simple recipe is a great way to include healthy flax seeds in everyday meals.

Ingredients for Flaxseed Chutney 

1 cup Flax seeds 
1/4 cup Groundnuts
3 tbsp Urad dal
3 tbsp Coriander seeds
2 tbsp Cumin seeds
1/4 cup Curry leaves
5-6 cloves of garlic
3 tbsp red chili powder( Optionally you can take whole red chilies and roast it with other ingredients)
2 tbsp oil
salt to taste

Preparation for Flaxseed Chutney

1. In a pan add little oil, add flax seeds and roast well, transfer in plate and keep aside
2. In same pan, roast Groundnuts and tansfer in same plate as flax seeds and keep aside
3. Now in same pan keep roasting, urad dal, coriander seeds, cumin seeds one by one and transfer in plate
4. Add little oil again and roast curry leaves till they turn crispy
5. Transfer curry leaves to the same plate as other ingredients, add chili powder,  garlic and salt
6. Let the all ingredients,  cool to room temperature and then grind to fine powder using a mixer grinder
Yummy chutney is ready....(I forgot to capture grounded chutney picture :( So that will add next time)

Tips for Best Jawas Chutney

• Roast flax seeds properly for nutty flavour
• Grind coarsely for authentic texture
• Store in airtight container to keep it fresh
• Add sesame seeds for richer flavour

Kitchen Gyan: When serving pure some Ghee on the chutney powder, serve with rice or phulka. Also goes well as dosa pudi
